Peer Review Process

The Editor-in-Chief will assign the manuscript to the Managing Editor for further handling. The Managing Editor will invite at least two scholars to review the research article manuscript. All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both reviewers and authors are concealed to ensure adherence to academic standards. Every article is subject to a rigorous review process. We only publish articles that have been approved by competent researchers with expertise in the relevant field, with a minimum of two reviewers for each article. The Asian Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Citizen Engagement upholds the standards of double-blind peer review while maintaining an efficient review process.

The main characteristics of the peer review process for all research articles published in this journal are described as follows:

The Asian Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Citizen Engagement employs a two-stage process. After a technical check, your submission will undergo an initial screening by the editorial team to assess its suitability for publication. If considered appropriate, the manuscript will be assigned to one of the editors for further processing, review, and decision-making.

If your manuscript aligns with the scope and meets the criteria of the Asian Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Citizen Engagement, it will be assigned to an Editor. The Editor will identify and contact two reviewers who are experts in the field. As peer review is a voluntary service, the process may take some time, but we ensure that the Editor will periodically remind reviewers to obtain timely responses. At this stage, the manuscript status will be marked as “Under Review.”

Once the Editor has received the minimum number of expert reviews, the status will change to “Required Reviews Complete.”

It is also possible that the Editor determines that your manuscript does not meet the journal’s criteria or scope and cannot be considered further. In such cases, the Editor will promptly notify you of the rejection and may recommend a more suitable journal.

Peer Review for Referred Papers

The Editor of the Asian Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Citizen Engagement will promptly decide whether to accept, reject, or request revisions for referred papers based on the reviews and editorial insights from supporting journals. The Editor may also request additional reviews if necessary. Authors will be notified if further review is required. The Editor will first examine the submitted article to assess its topical relevance and writing quality. All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process, where the identities of reviewers and authors remain confidential throughout to maintain academic integrity.

Summary of the Process

  1. Manuscript Submission (by the author).

  2. Manuscript Screening and Selection (by the manager and editor).

  3. The editor has the authority to accept, reject, or send the manuscript for review.

  4. Prior to proceeding, each manuscript is checked for plagiarism using Turnitin.

  5. Manuscript Review Process (by reviewers).

  6. Notification of Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection (by the editor to the author based on reviewer comments).

  7. Article Revision (by the author).

  8. Resubmission of Revised Manuscript based on reviewer suggestions (by the author), following a process similar to step 1.

  9. Once reviewers are satisfied with the revisions, the editor notifies the author that the manuscript is accepted.

  10. Galley proof and publication process.

Steps 1 through 5 constitute one full round of the peer review process. The editor or editorial board evaluates the reviewers’ feedback and makes a decision. The most common decisions are:

  • Accepted without revision: The journal will publish the article as submitted.

  • Accepted with Minor Revisions: The journal will publish the article after the author makes minor corrections within the specified time.

  • Accepted with Major Revisions: The journal will publish the article after the author makes substantial changes as recommended by the reviewers and/or editor within the specified timeframe.

  • Resubmit (conditional rejection): The journal is willing to reconsider the article in the next decision round after major revisions are completed.

  • Rejected (full rejection): The journal will not publish or reconsider the article, even with extensive revisions.
